Niles sixth at Portage Northern Invitational

PORTAGE — The Niles volleyball team finished sixth out of 21 teams at the Portage Northern Invitational Saturday.

The Vikings defeated Wayland 25-19, 25-13 and lost to Battle Creek Harper Creek 25-14 and 25-21 in pool play.

Niles was seeded second heading into power pool play where it defeated Okemos 25-16 and 25-22, as well as Paw Paw 25-18 and 25-18.

The Vikings were the top seed heading to Gold Bracket action.

Niles lost to No. 2-ranked Schoolcraft 25-23 and 25-22.

“We played consistent and intense throughout the entire day, which has been our goal all season,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “We beat some very tough teams today due to our ability to work together and use our team chemistry.”

Niles (15-8-3) travels to Mishawaka on Tuesday.
