PORTAGE — Niles volleyball went 1-0-2 at the SMAC Mini hosted by Portage Northern Wednesday.

The Vikings split with Gull Lake 25-20 and 20-25, defeated Battle Creek Lakeview 25-12 and 25-22 and split with Battle Creek Central 25-13 and 15-25.

“Overall, we played five great sets out of six,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “The final set of the day against Battle Creek, we went in overconfident, made various errors, dug ourselves a hole and then we weren’t able to dig ourselves out.

“We have to learn to work hard to keep our intensity and tempo the same no matter who we are facing. The rest of the week, we will hit the gym hard for some tough practices to prepare for Portage Northern on Saturday.”
