Niles freshmen 2-1 at SMAC Mini

The Niles freshmen volleyball team went 2-1 at the SMAC mini Wednesday night.

“We weren’t ready to play our first game,” Niles coach Samantha Zimmerman said. “We started extremely slow and played way below our potential. Gull Lake was a great serving team, and we just couldn’t figure it out. On the balls that we figured out our passing though, our hitters couldn’t put the ball away. Luckily, we got a game break and came back ready to play.

“We took on Battle Creek Lakeview and finally played as a team. I’ve never seen our team play so well as a team before, and it was very promising. They even carried it over to the next game against Battle Creek Central. I got to play girls in various positions and still saw great things. I was very happy with the way my team came together tonight.”

Niles (14-7-1) will travel to Mishawaka on Tuesday.
