Anna Marie ‘Sis’ Mallow, of Dowagiac

Anna Marie, always known as “Sis” was born on Dec. 21, 1923, in Dowagiac to Roswell and Lucille Ely. “Sis” had 4 brothers, Richard, Francis, Pete, and Bob who introduced her to the love of her life, their friend Joe Mallow. Joe and “Sis” were married for 67 years when he passed away in 2012.

They are survived by their children Gary(Carol) Mallow and Nancy (Dennis) Spinazze. Their beloved 3 grandchildren, Mark (Liza) Spinazze, Jaime (Kyle) Bennett, and Anne Marie Spinazze (Peter Heigl). They have 3 beautiful great grandchildren and a 4th due this month. Their children and grandchildren honor their beautiful example of marriage and great love story.

“Sis” and Joe grew up in Dowagiac and were active in many community organizations including the Dowagiac Elks Club, BGU Sorority, The Dowagiac Jr Arts Club, The Federated Church.

“Sis” was named Miss Dowagiac in the last pageant prior to the outbreak of WWII. She worked at Wolverine Mutual Insurance and for The Dowagiac Public Schools.They were passionate about their Dowagiac community . They moved to the Chicago area 4 years ago to be closer to family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday September 17th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a service following with Pastor Chad Benkert of the Federated Church officiating at 2:00 p.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street in Dowagiac . Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Clark Chapel & Cremation Services of Dowagiac is serving the family.
