Superintendent search needs you

Hiring a superintendent is one of the most important decisions a school board will ever have to make.

Not only will that person lead the district, he or she will also have great influence over important decisions about the district’s budget and set the educational agenda moving forward.

On Monday, the Niles Community Schools Board of Education began the process of searching for a new superintendent to replace interim Supt. Michael Lindley, who came on after former Supt. Richard Weigel resigned in February amongst much controversy.

Considering what the district has gone through over the past several months, it is extremely important that the board find the right person to lead the district, hopefully, for many years to come.

To do that, the board will need help from you — the community.

In the coming months, the board will be holding public forums, handing out surveys and asking questions with one goal in mind: To find out what qualities you want to see in your next superintendent.

The more people that respond, the better an idea the board will have of what its next superintendent should look like.

While the board members can do it on their own, they will greatly benefit from the thoughts and desires of their constituents.

We hope to see lots of participation as the board dives headfirst into its search.

The Niles Daily Star will do its best to keep readers informed of when and where they can provide input for this important decision.
