Betty Kathryn (Hammond) Lemke, 80 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Aug. 29, 2014. She was born in Salem, Arkansas on Dec. 12, 1933, to James Travis and Ruth (Chesnut) Hammond. In 1952 she married John F. Lemke Sr. and they were married for 21 years. No immediate funeral services are scheduled at this time. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Jean (Steve) Deckard; son, John F. Lemke Jr.; sister, Madgelyn Halley; granddaughter, Lauren M. Deckard; grandson, Steven R. Deckard II, John F. Deckard and James R. Bowie; great-grandsons, Christopher Deckard, William Ryan Bowie, Austin James Bowie and great-granddaughters, Lylah Ellis and Alexus Marie Bowie. Betty Loved her grandchildren very much.

On Aug. 29, 2014, Betty died peacefully in her home with her children in attendance. Betty worked for several years at the old Community State Bank in Dowagiac, Michigan. She also spent her career working in Denver, Colorado and Indianapolis as a medical office manager and executive assistant. She spent several years working for Simon Property Group in Indianapolis.

Betty was very bright, witty, insightful and in full possession of the inherent charm of her southern background. Her family takes comfort that she is now at rest in the peace and presence of her Lord and Savior. Her family would like to thank the Pike Township Fire Department, Dr. Sharron Grannis and Kindred at Home Hospice Services for their kindness, compassion and exceptional professionalism.
