STURGIS — The Dowagiac freshman football team defeated host Sturgis 33-0 Thursday.

“The team is finally settling in to their new positions and we are going to continue to improve every week,” Dowagiac coach Chad Perrin said. “The Chieftains play the Otsego Bulldogs next week and we are looking to build on tonight’s performance.”

Offensive touchdowns were scored by JJ Smith, Caleb Murphy, Taylor Dodd, Jamin Hunt and Brendan Dudley.

Hunt caught 2-point conversion and Dudley kicked an extra point. Other notable performances on offense were Cody Walker and Shiquan White. Defensively, Gage
