More than 35 teams participated in 18th annual golf outing

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department hosted its 18th annual Community Scholarship Golf Outing this summer at Hampshire Golf Course.

Thirty-six teams, 14 scholarship recipients and many volunteers were present for the event, which took place in late July.

With the support of community members across the county, the event raised $14,500 for the continuation of scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded to Cass County residents who will be graduating seniors or college freshmen in the next school year.

The money generated through this community event not only supports newly awarded scholarships, it also has allowed an endowment fund to be established at Southwestern Michigan College, with an endowment totaling $124,757.

The 2014 teams of J & H Oil and Vaughn Clean-Rite finished in a tie for first place in the corporate entries category. Finishing first for the individual team was Badner and Clark.

Sheriff Joseph Underwood thanked the community for their continued support and generosity for this event.
