College football overload

To say I got my fill of college football Saturday might be a bit of an understatement.

I started watching at 9 a.m. when College Game Day launched the day on ESPN, and I was still watching football at midnight as I was trying catch up on all the scores.

Actually, my college football feast started Friday night on the Big Ten Network with the Michigan State Spartans.

Being a sports editor, I am not your usual college football fan.

I do not get all jacked up by a team playing well against an inferior opponent.

Nor do I get extremely depressed when things do not go well for the team I am cheering for.

Boy was I glad that I am that way after reading all the comments on Twitter and Facebook from the normal college football fans.

If I listened to what they said, Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame have already locked up spots in the championship tournament at the end of the season.

There are a couple of problems with that.

No. 1, there are only four spots and the likelihood of all three of those teams making it is extremely slim.

Secondly, they played Jacksonville State, Appalachian State and Rice respectively.

Come on now it is not like they beat Alabama, Florida State and Oregon.

We will all have a better idea of just how good the Spartans, Wolverines and Fighting Irish are after this weekend.

Michigan State will take on the previously mentioned Oregon, while Michigan and Notre Dame will play each other the last time this decade.

I have to admit, it was nice to be watching college football again. I enjoy the pageantry and sounds of the game.

The first weekend of high school and college football also means that fall, my favorite season, is not far behind.

Another great weekend of college football is nearly upon us and I cannot way.
