Charles E. Davis, 94, of Edwardsburg, died peacefully, Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, in the presence of his family in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart.

Charles was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Goshen, Indiana to Charles and Beatrice (Young) Davis. He married Merle Evelyn Miller on Dec. 13, 1941, in Bryan, Ohio. After more than sixty-three years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded by his parents; one daughter, Gloria Irene Davis; four sisters, Wilma Morse, Thelma Gawthrop, Evelyn Riffle, Doris Sofer; and three brothers, Donald Davis, Elwyn “Al” Davis, and LaVern Davis.

Charlie graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1938. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving overseas in the European Campaign in England, Algiers, Italy, and Rhineland for forty months in the Chemical Warfare Unit. Charlie retired as a union Carpenter. Known as “Silver Dollar Charlie,” he was an avid mushroom hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his second home in Mesick, Michigan.

Charles will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by three sons, Charles (Ellen) Davis of Elkhart, Roger (Kitty) Davis of Edwardsburg, Larry Davis of Edwardsburg; four grandchildren, Lori (Randy) Teague of Elkhart, Tony Davis of Elkhart, Cori (Chad) Buchar of Niles, Travis (Nancy) Davis of Sylvania, Ohio; nine great grandchildren, Brittany (Robert Winrott) Taylor, Brooklyn Kay, Brandon Kay, Breanne Teague, all of Elkhart, Jaxon Davis and Hannah Davis, both of Sylvania, Ohio, and Erik Buchar, Justin Buchar, and Ryan Buchar, all of Niles; one great great grandson, Tyson Winrott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Mr. Davis will be accorded full Military Honors at 6 p.m. in the funeral home under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the American Legion Edwardsburg Post 365. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and daughter in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

The family prefers contributions be made in Charlies’s memory to Cass County Medical Care Facility, 23770 Hospital Street, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
