Six local students have been named recipients of scholarships from the Niles Haunted House Scream Park community project, including three from Brandywine High School and one each from Niles High and Berrien Springs Discovery Academy

The Niles Haunted House Board of Directors said these graduates stood out based on their academic success, involvement in the Michiana community and future aspirations to become civic leaders.

“We are proud of the accomplishments achieved by this group of young adults and are confident in their ability to sustain success in their collegiate and professional careers,” said the board in a released statement.

The scholarship recipients are as follows:

• Tyler Blevins, Brandywine High School “Gottlieb Christ Memorial Scholarship”

• Trevor Jones, Brandywine High School “Keith Shurte Memorial Scholarship”

• Justin Kindig, Niles High School “Lou Milley Memorial Scholarship”

• Jesse Newton, Berrien Springs Discovery Academy “Niles Haunted House Scholarship”

• Kyle Scott, Brandywine High School “John Carlson Memorial Scholarship”

These scholarships are made possible by the hard working volunteers at the Niles Haunted House Scream Park. Each year a select group of individuals donate their time to support local high school graduates.

In addition to local scholarships, the Niles Haunted House community project supports more than 65 area charities and non-profit groups. Proceeds benefitted local school and service organizations including groups such as Boy Scouts, the Make a Wish Foundation, the Lakeshore High School Stage Crew, Positively Dance, the Niles Drama Club and the AmericanCancer Society (Haunters for Hope team).

Last year more than $82,000 was raised. More than $1.3 million have been raised since 1995.

The Scream Park officially opens Friday, Sept. 12.
