THREE RIVERS — Edwardsburg quarterback Dante Razzano picked a perfect time to complete his only one pass in Thursday’s Wolverine Conference football game against Three Rivers.

Razzano’s two point-conversion pass to Jackson Gaideski in the right corner of the end zone gave the Eddies a dramatic, 42-40, double overtime win over the Wildcats.

All three of Razzano’s passes in the game were incomplete before the two-point conversion game-winner to Gaideski.

“We went in (to the pass play) with the idea that we had been running Isaiah (Miller) pretty much steadily on that right side,” said Edwardsburg coach Kevin Bartz. “We hadn’t really thrown the ball at all. We figured that (Three Rivers) was going to suck in tight for (Miller). We had two receivers wide open and it was a matter of Dante hanging it up and then us pulling it in.”

Miller’s one-yard plunge tied the game at 40 in the second overtime.

Three Rivers took a 40-34 lead after getting a two-yard touchdown run from Bailey Miholer Wortinger. The Wildcats then failed to convert a two-point conversion run.

In the first overtime, Edwardsburg jumped out to a 34-28 lead after getting a three-yard touchdown run from Miller. The two-point conversion run failed.

WIthout their starting kicker Tyler Treat, who was out with an injury, the Eddies didn’t kick extra points in the game.

The Wildcats came back to tie the game at 34 after Wortinger scored on a nine-yard run. The extra-point, which would have won the game for Three Rivers, went wide left.

The game was tied at 28 going into overtime after Wildcats’ kicker Riley Seifert had his 41-yard field goal blocked with :01 left in regulation.

Edwardsburg scored all 42 of its points in the second half as Three Rivers took a 14-0 lead into halftime. The Wildcats outgained the Eddies, 168 yards to 49, in the first half.

“We had a disastrous first half,” Bartz said.

The second half was much different for Bartz’s squad as the Eddies scored on six of their seven drives and rushed for 235 yards. Gaideski’s six-yard touchdown run gave Edwardsburg its first lead of the game at 22-21 with 11:26 left in the game.

“Our guys showed a lot of heart to come back in the second half,” Bartz said. “We have a pretty young and inexperienced team. I’m very excited to see what the future brings to these guys.”

Miller rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns, while teammate Dustin Vires added 106 yards on 11 carries.
