Edwardsburg never recovered from a poor finish in game two of Tuesday’s volleyball match against Buchanan.

The Bucks erased an 18-13 deficit in game two and prevailed in the game, 25-19. Buchanan won game one, 25-22, and game three three, 25-15.

“I have nine new girls and they need to learn how to mesh together better when things aren’t going well,” said Edwardsburg coach Chrissy Breisch, who called six timeouts during the match.

Buchanan only trailed once in game one and never trailed in game three. A 9-2 run gave the Bucks a 20-12 lead in game one. Edwardsburg put on a furious rally, but never got closer than two points.

Struggles at the end of game two continued in game three for the Eddies. The hosts fell behind, 11-3, before rallying to pull within, 15-13, after getting a service ace from Katelyn Crothers. Buchanan finished the game on a 10-2 run with the final point coming on a service ace from Franki Strefling. The Bucks also got two service aces from Britta Mollberg in their final seven points.

“We quit swinging and we started doing things that we’ve never done before,” Breisch said about her team’s play in game three.

Edwardsburg freshman Kaylee Moore totaled a game-high nine kills. Strefling led Buchanan offensively with six kills.
