Ruth E. Wolf, 91. formerly of Almaugus Drive in Niles, Michigan, died at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on Sept. 2, 1922, in Niles to Clarence and Margaret Eliza (Cornwall) Benjamin. She attended Niles Schools, and has lived here all of her life. Most of her time was spent on the family farm working both the produce and the livestock. She was also employed for a few years at the former Lollipop Restaurant on Detroit Street, and at the Rynearson Apartments in Buchanan.

“Momma Ruth” was a member of Howard Township Home Economics. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, camping at Harwood Lake and caring for animals including pets, the farm animals, and wildlife. But her greatest joy was caring for children.

On March 15, 1939, in Rochester, Indiana she married John Dale Wolf with whom she celebrated the 48th anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on April 22, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Scott Wolf in 2010, a stillborn great-grandson, Brendan Christopher Fultz in 2001, and three brothers, Kay R. Benjamin and Ned Benjamin, as well as Keith Benjamin, who died in childhood.

Surviving family includes her children, Dale D. (Janice) Wolf of Niles and Sandra S. Opara of Justice, Illinois; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; and Ruth’s brothers, Roy Benjamin of Buchanan and Daryl “Joe” (Joan) Benjamin of Niles; and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Ruth E. Wolf will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Hope Community Church in Niles with Associate Pastor Monte Brunner of Hope Church officiating. Committal will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, privately.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to the Youth Program at Hope Community Church. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
