LaVerne G. Carnegie, 90, of Dowagiac, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

She was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois to Fritz and Linnea (Hedstrom) Carlberg. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, twin sisters who died in infancy, two brothers Harry and Herbert and her sister Vivian.

LaVerne married the love of her life, David Warren Carnegie on June 14, 1947. They spent many happy years together but she lost her soul mate in 2006.

LaVerne worked for many years in the field of education and prior to retirement was employed by Rice University, School of Business Administration in Houston, Texas. During her retirement years LaVerne was on the Board of Director’s for the Woodlands Behavioral Healthcare Network, Silver Creek Township Appeal Board, and was active in her church.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be private at Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles. A Memorial Service will be held in LaVerne’s honor on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at 11:30 a.m at Silver Creek United Methodist Church, Dowagiac, Michigan. A luncheon at the church will be held immediately following the service.

Surviving family members are son David Carnegie Jr. of Dowagiac, Michigan; daughter Patricia Carnegie of Houston, Texas; and son Scott and wife Jean Carnegie of St. Charles, Missouri; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
