Let cooler heads prevail in sewer dispute

The constant bickering between the Ontwa Township Board and residents over the sewer project really needs to stop.

We understand that this is an emotionally charged issue, but people speaking out of turn and shouting over others who are talking is not going to accomplish anything.

This issue has now spilled over to the Cass County Commission and last week’s meeting was equally contentious.

People have to learn that you catch more bees with honey than vinegar.

We are not making light of this situation, merely pointing out that being angry all the time will not fix the problem or bring a faster solution to the situation.

Ontwa Township elected a sewer board recently and we believe it is time to let them try and do their job, which is to decide whether or not building a wastewater treatment facility is in the best interest of Ontwa Township.

Not all Ontwa Township residents is pleased with who was appointed to this board, but that does not change the fact that have been charged with finding out how to stop the ongoing fines being levied by Elkhart, which is the current receiver of the wastewater.

We can only hope that this situation comes to a conclusion sooner than later because it truly is tearing apart not only the current board, but the people who live in Ontwa Township and the Village of Edwardsburg.
