April 24, 1921 — July 28, 2014

Frances Marie Schulz, 93, of 300 Stocker Drive, Richmond Kentucky, passed away on July 28, 2014, in Central Baptist Hospital of Lexington.

She was born April 24, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York to Kate (Fogel) Gibson and Thomas Gibson. Her childhood was spent in the Bronx, where she attended school and studied piano. She particularly enjoyed summers, which the family spent on Lake Zoar near Sandy Hook, Connecticut. On May 10, 1941, she married Paul Herman Schulz, who predeceased her in 2000. Her brother Ernest Gibson also preceded her in death.

A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Schulz is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lamar (Janet) Bridges of Commerce Texas and two sons, Paul G. (Sammae) Schulz of Richmond, Kentucky and Edward T. (Kathleen) Schulz of Santa Fe, New Mexico; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mrs. Schulz lived in various locations with her husband Paul and family, including Springfield, Ohio (1950s and 1998-2009), Columbiana OH (1960-1972), and Niles MI (1972-1996), before moving to Richmond in 2009. Born into the Presbyterian Church, she joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield as a young woman and remained a member until her death.

“So delicate with her needle, an admirable musician” (Shakespeare). Mrs. Schulz was a very talented seamstress as well as a gifted pianist. Her father, a violinist, and her Uncle Harry Gibson particularly inspired her enjoyment of music. In 1974 Mrs. Schulz returned to the academic study of piano and music theory at a branch of the Sherwood Music School, based in Chicago. She studied diligently, attaining a diploma from the program in 1979. A grand piano, her prized possession and constant friend, always accompanied the family’s many moves. Her warm personality attracted many additional friends, with whom she enjoyed bridge and other activities.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to McCready Manor in Richmond, Kentucky or to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, Ohio.
