Inez P. Sutton, 96, of Union, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cass County Medical Facility.

The Union, Michigan native was born Oct. 28, 1917 to the late Clarence and E. Bertha (Rine) Fisher.

Inez joined the US Navy as a Navy WAVE during WWII and served honorably from 1944-1945. Following her service to her country, Inez married Floyd Sutton on July 27, 1946, in Union. He preceded her in death, passing away in 1998.

Inez earned her Master of Science degree and taught biology and advanced biology at Sturgis High School for many years, retiring in 1980.

Survivors include her daughters, Laura (Mike) Vance of Mishawaka, and Janet (Jon) Nichols of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Erin, Heather, J.P. Katie and Devin, along with one great-grandchild, Abbie. A second great-grandchild is due in August.

Her siblings, Henry (Mary Jane) Fisher of Minneapolis and Bea Nusbaum of Elkhart survive as well.

Inez was preceded in death by her son, John Sutton in 2013.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Union.

Inez was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed swimming and was a member of a garden club for many years. She also loved to play cards, and was the 2012 Senior Cribbage Champion in the state of Texas.

In her memory, donations may be made to Porter Baptist Church (12032 Teasdale Lake St., Constantine, MI 49042), of which she was a longtime member.
