Suspect in custody following stabbing incident in Vandalia

Officers with the Cass County Sheriff’s office have apprehended a suspect in a stabbing attack that occurred in Penn Township on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office reports that deputies responded to a 911 call that a person had been stabbed at the 6000 block of Main Street in Vandalia at around 12:04 a.m. Sunday.

Contact was made with the victim, 46-year-old Mark Perkins, of Dowagiac. The victim reported that he got into a verbal altercation with another person that ended with his assailant pulling out a knife and stabbing him twice.

Perkins was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries, and was subsequently released.

A suspect was later apprehended and charged. His name is being withheld at this time, pending arraignment.
