Esther M. Adler, 86, of Niles, passed away peacefully at her home on July 19, 2014, with her family by her side.

She was born on March 28, 1928, in Niles to the late Raymond and Lena Bruce.

After graduating high school, Esther married Jack Cox, who preceded her in death. She worked for many years as a banker. On Aug. 20, 1999, Esther married Robert Adler in Niles. Although they were only together 15 years, they made a lifetime of memories. Esther enjoyed baking, golfing, reading and traveling, especially playing slot machines at various casinos. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching Notre Dame and never missed a chance to cheer for the Chicago Bears.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Bertha Hannan, Pearl Temuch and Marjorie Bartold.

Esther is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” Adler of Niles, a son Dan Cox of Niles, two step-sons Mike and Dave Adler, two sisters Betty Larsen of Rome, Georgia, and Beatrice Byrne of Casa Grande, Arizona as well as many other step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to honor Esther’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, with a time of visitation one hour prior. A private interment will be held on Tuesday at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.

In keeping with Esther’s love and passion for animals, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Pet Refuge 4626 S. Burnett Drive, South bend, Indiana 46614.
