A two-car crash on US-12 has left a 4-year-old Vandalia girl dead and two with serious injuries, according to Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr.

Underwood said his department responded to a two-car  traffic crash at 4:09 p.m. on Monday, July 14, just east of the intersection of US-12 and Old 205
in Mason Township.

Linda Chanthavongsavath was driving westbound with four-year-old Adrianna Chanthavongsavath as a passenger in the car when they collided with a pickup truck driven by Edwin Powless Jr., 73, of Otsego.

Adrianna was not in a child safety seat at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Both drivers were injured in the collision. Linda Chanthavongsavath was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Powless was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

According to Underwood, the exact circumstances that led up to the crash were still being investigated Tuesday by crash investigators.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
