Christopher Allen Simpson, 20, was sentenced Monday in Berrien County Trial Court in Niles to a minimum of five years in prison for one count of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

According to court documents, the victim, a 39-year-old Galien woman, was sexually assaulted at her residence in Galien May 18.

The victim told police that Simpson held the knife and told her that he would “do her like his dad did his mom.”

The victim said Simpson was referring to his father, who allegedly killed his mother before committing suicide, according to court documents.

“It was totally reprehensible behavior,” said Judge Dennis Wiley.

The two had been dating and living together for about a month. The victim told police that Simpson had been physically abusive in the two to three weeks leading up to the incident.

“I am afraid to be in my home now. I have to have people with me,”

the victim said.

After Simpson is released he will have to wear an electronic monitoring device for the rest of his life.

“I am sorry,” Simpson said. “That is all I can say.”
