The Niles Burn Run will roll out this weekend with a variety of fun activities for the whole family, including its signature 50-mile motorcycle ride through beautiful Southwest Michigan.

Proceeds from the event go to the Great Lakes Burn Camp, a place where young burn victims can heal and have fun.

In 12 years, the Burn Run has raised approximately $115,000. That is enough to send more than 191 children to the Jackson camp, which costs an average of $600 to attend.

“It’s all about the kids,” said Jodi Curran, member of the Niles Burn Run board. “The more money we raise the more kids that get to go and spend time not thinking about their mental and physical scars.”

While the ride itself takes place Sunday, festivities begin Friday and run through the whole weekend in downtown Niles.

For the first time, Niles Burn Run, Inc., a non-profit organization, is offering a car show Friday at Riverfront Park. The free event is open to motorcycles, cars and trucks and prizes will be awarded.

The fun continues Saturday when Main Street in downtown Niles is shut down to make way for an entire day of activities, including live music, a BMX stunt show, fire truck pull, motorcycle games and more. This year’s headliner band, HairMania, will play from 9 p.m. to midnight under a tent in the Riverfront Plaza parking lot. Curran said the large tent would be cooled this year.

Registration for the Burn Run ride opens at 9 a.m. Sunday and the police-escorted ride motors off at noon.

This year’s route is different from last year’s and will include a trip on Barron Lake Road and Front Street in Buchanan. Curran said people are encouraged to line the streets and cheer on the riders as they pass through.
