Sue Vomish, 76, of Dowagiac, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Timbers of Cass County.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday July 3, 2014, at the Federated Covenant Church, 202 Center St., Dowagiac, with Pastor Chad Benkhert officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Burial will follow at South Wayne Cemetery.

Sue’s life began on July 19, 1937, in Mattoon, Illinois, the daughter of James and Pauline (Hatcher) Sanders. She was a graduate of Thorton Fraction North High School in Calumet City, Illinois.

Sue was united in marriage to Jerome “Jerry” Vomish on May 3, 1958, at St. Andrews in Calumet City, Illinois.

After retiring from Montgomery Ward, she moved to Dowagiac with her family.

Sue loved her home on the lake. She enjoyed having her friends and family visit with her there. She became very active with the Twin Lakes Improvement Association, in which she served as the president, vice president and secretary.

She was elected to Fruit Belt Electric Board of Trustees and later served on Midwest Energy’s Propane Board. She was the president of the Michigan Lakes and Streams Association.

Sue loved to be of service
to her community. She was an active member of the PTA, Mother Singers and also served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was lovingly referred to as “Mother Plumtree.” Sue was also a very active member and leader for over 20 years at the Federated Covenant Church in Dowagiac.

Sue’s greatest Joy was her family; she was her children and grandchildren’s biggest fan in everything that they did. She was not only the life of the party, she was the party. People of all ages gravitated to her laughter and warm smile.

Her loving family includes her late husband, Jerome Vomish, her daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Luthringer, Dawn (John) King, Doreen (Dan) Manos; nine grandchildren, Jason (Nina) Luthringer, David Luthringer, Pete (Jessica) King, Melanie Manos, Meagan Gonic, Melissa Manos, Ashley (Kyle) Bennett, Anna Luthringer; three step-grandchildren, Sammy Alfuqua, Shane Bevins and Brian Bevins; two great-grandchildren; Charlie Bennett and Cheyenne Williams; two sisters, Peggy Celorek and Lynette Morgan; three brothers, Tom Sanders, Jerry Sanders and Larry Sanders. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Gonic, great-grandsons Ashton and Aiden Bennett and her brother James Sanders.
