Q: What is your position with Relay for Life?

I’ve been the chairman of promotions for the last three years.

Q: What does your role as promotions chair entail?

I try getting it in all the newspapers, on the radio, on the TV, all over town, to try to get the word out that we’re having Relay and encourage them all to come out and support us.

Q: How did you originally become involved with Relay for Life?

My husband and volunteer to be on the Relay — I think this is our fifth year as Relay in Edwardsburg. Before we moved here we had always Relayed in Oklahoma, and we had always enjoyed it. We have a family team called the Susie-Q’s. My husband’s work was going to sponsor a team. And we have family and friends who have had cancer. Some have died and some have survived. But we like to be there to support them and help the cause.

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else?

I help out with the Lionness Club and volunteer just wherever they need me here in Edwardsburg.

Q: Why do you think people should volunteer?

Just to help out. I do it because I like to help people and make sure things are going smooth, I guess.

Q: How many teams are involved with Edwardsburg’s Relay this year?

I believe there are 17 teams this year.
