Musically, Megan and Liz Mace have already returned to their roots.

Friday night, the recording artists are literally coming home — if only for one night.

Megan and Liz, who recently released a new EP “Simple Life,” have moved to Nashville after spending a year in Los Angeles and the new release moves them back toward their country roots.

“We lived in L.A. for almost a year and it was too far from home and too big,” Liz said. “We are small town girls from Edwardsburg. In Nashville we feel so much more at home because it has a small-town feel.”

Megan and Liz are more than a little excited to be returning to Edwardsburg to play at the Performing Arts Center Friday night. The show, which will include a full band, is going to benefit the Edwardsburg Relay for Life, which is Saturday and Sunday.

“We are so excited,” Megan said. “We always wanted to perform in the PAC ever since it was built. I can remember rehearsing for a musical and standing on that stage thinking someday I want to come back here and perform.”

“It really is exciting and it always feels good to come back home after being away for so long,” Liz said. “There is nothing like coming back to a place where I know who everyone is.”

The twins were contacted by the Edwardsburg High School cheerleading coach about helping out this year’s Relay for Life.

“We were asked if we would be interested in coming up for Relay for Life and singing a couple of songs,” Liz said. “We said that sounded awesome, but let’s take it a step further and do a full show and make it a benefit for Relay for Life.”

Friday night’s show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available at the high school as well as at meganandlizrelay.eventbrite.com.

For those unable to attend the show, they will be able to watch it live through Stageit.com.

The “Simple Life” EP gets the duo back to singing country music. Moving to Nashville also marks their desire to make their move.

“This is where we felt we needed to be,” Megan said. “This is where we want to sink our roots in the ground and really go for it.”

“The ‘Simple Life’ is our first full-on country release,” added Liz. “We have always straddled the line between pop and country, but this album sounds much more like us.”

Megan said the early feedback to the album has been good.

“This reaction has been the most genuine,” she said. “People are saying that this album sounds like us and it just feels right. We want our music to connect with us.”

Megan and Liz are not only excited about performing in the PAC and helping out Relay for Life, but getting back to Michigan when it is warm.

“The last time we really spent a good amount of time here it was winter, so we are excited to be here during the summer,” Megan said.

After they return to Nashville, the remainder of the summer will be writing new songs and doing random shows around the county.

“We are not doing a tour, but we will be playing shows,” Liz said. “We are working on new music constantly and building this career is a full-time job.”
