Susan Ann “Susie” Welling, 53, of South Bend, Indiana, formerly of Niles died on Friday, June 13, 2104, at her home unexpectedly, but of natural causes.

She was born May 8, 1961, in Niles to Arthur and Barbara (Sheperis) Kane.

Susie spent much of her time in her flower garden and watching the birds that visited her feeding stands. She was a fan of the band “Rush” and finally attended one of their concerts with her son recently. More than anything, Susie loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Susie is survived by her son Jeremy (Kim) Welling; daughter, Krystal (fiance Brian Pipke) Welling; grandchildren Haylea, Gwendolyn “Gwennie-Bean,” Raven, Jacob and Skylynn, all of Niles. Also surviving are Susie’s siblings, LeAnn Kane of South Bend, Joseph (Sue) Kane of Bristol, Indiana, Patrick (Dawn) Kane of Three Rivers, Michigan, Cathleen (Scott East) Kane and Scott Kane, all of Niles and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Monty Hillyer, Sr. in 2013 and by grandson Leo Welling in 2014.

The family will host an evening of sharing and memories beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at 1240 Thomson Road, Niles.

Donations in memory of Susie can be made to the Center for Hospice, South Bend.
