Art gallery offers camps for children of all ages

The ARS Gallery/Arts & Culture Center is offering four weeks of art camp this summer titled “A Summer Arts Quest” bonjour France. Three of the camps will focus on the art and culture of France. A fourth camp will be a teen camp focusing on intensive studio arts.

• Camp I (5-7 years) June 23-26, $125 — Monday – Thursday, noon – 3 p.m.

• Camp II (7-12 years) July 14-18, $140 — Monday – Friday, noon – 4 p.m.

• Camp III (8-13 years) July 21-25, $160 — Monday – Friday, noon – 4:30 p.m.

• Camp IV (13-17 years) Aug. 4-8, $160 — Monday – Friday, noon – 4:30 p.m.

Students will develop skills, techniques, critical thinking, creative problem solving and conceptual concerns through a wide range of resources, materials and with the guidance of talented teachers.

Collaboration, cooperation and focus will all be considered.

A student artist’s reception will be held on the last day of each week of camp. Family and friends are invited to the gallery for refreshments, and to view the art the students have created which will be exhibited.

This is the fifth year for art camp at ARS in Benton Harbor (two prior years offered in St. Joe), and the organization’s fifth year partnering with Water Street Glassworks.

Camp’s III and IV travel to Water Street Glassworks for a leg of the camp.

The ARS Gallery opened in September 2010, and is located on Fifth Street. ARS continues with local emerging, regional and national high profile of contemporary artist’s exhibiting throughout the year, and offers many classes throughout the year for children and adults alike.

The ARS Gallery/Arts & Culture Center is the home of the I Am The Greatest project, and a vital part of the Benton Harbor community. In addition to being a well-known exhibition space, the gallery is committed to providing much needed children’s arts programming to the Benton Harbor communities local youth.
