COA offering mahjong Mondays

The Cass County COA will be adding the game mahjong from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lowe Center on Mondays.

The game is a popular pastime all over the world and is a great way to socialize and stimulate brain cells!  mahjong is known for its ability to keep your mind sharp because of the mental complexity of the game.

“The players who are attending mahjong on Mondays tell us that the game is an excellent mental workout — and lots of fun,” said Sandi Hoger, active living team leader.  “We found that there are so many who play mahjong in the community that we decided that it made complete sense to have a group here at the COA.  The group will meet every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m.  The nice part is that players are willing to teach newcomers.”

So many people are looking for activities that stimulate brain activity, and mahjong is touted in international medical journals for its ability to “produce consistent gains across all cognitive performance measures.”  The amazing thing is that the brain gains last long after the game has been played.

If you are interested in attending the mahjong group all that is necessary is to show up.  If you want to be part of a team, or wish to bring your team, please contact Sandi Hoger at 445-8110 so that a table is in place for your group.

The Lowe Center is located at 60525 Decatur Road and M-60 in Cassopolis.
