One person dies in early morning mobile home fire in Vandalia

One person died early Thursday morning in Vandalia, after being caught in a fire that engulfed a mobile home on Chain Lake Road, according to a press release by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, Cass County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at around 4:05 a.m., with the caller reporting that a residence at the 17000 block of Chain Lake was on fire. Firefighters from the Central Cass Fire Department and Penn Township were dispatched to the scene, where they found a blaze consuming a mobile home.

After extinguishing the flames, the fire crews discovered the deceased remains of an unidentified person inside the home. No other people were found inside.

The identity of the victim, including age and sex, are still under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Michigan Sate Police Fire Marshal division.

Officials are also investigating the cause of the fire.
