Ruth Irene Tharp, 78, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Monday, June 2, 2014, in the Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac.

Ruth was born March 10, 1936, in Calvin Township, Michigan to Gwenore and Olive (Higley) Tharp. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded by one brother-in-law, Kenneth Wilson.

Ruth was always cheerful and smiling. She enjoyed reading her Bible and just about any book or magazine. She liked sitting in the yard in the sunshine and feeding the birds. She did many jigsaw puzzles and played many board games.

Ruth will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Phillip Waldo of Jones, Thelma and Ray Yoder of LaGrange, Indiana, Betty and Philip Meiser of Dowagiac and Anna Wilson of Jones; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Barb Tharp of Menominee and Ray and Ilga Tharp of Vandalia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather from 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis, with Pastor Bill Bruneau officiating.

Miss Tharp will be laid to rest in Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis.
