Thanks for the help with “stamping out” hunger

On Saturday, May 9, the Dowagiac postal workers held their annual food drive to help “stamp out” hunger.

As recipients of  a share of the food collected, members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church would like to express their appreciation to the postal workers and volunteers who collect and distribute food to area food pantries.

St. Paul’s food pantry is open on the last Saturday of every month and serves about 100 families monthly. Drives such as those conducted by the postal workers provide an opportunity for the community to support local food pantries and their work to help those who experience food insecurity.

St. Paul’s also provides free community lunch on the last Saturday, with the entrée provided by the Wood Fire restaurant. The women of Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church provide desserts.

In addition, volunteers from various community organizations and agencies help with the lunch and pantry each month. We are fortunate to live in a community where so many groups work together to support the pantries that help local families stretch their food dollars.
