Jeffrey Mullen

Jeff was born on May 6, 1960, to the late Robert and Dorothy Mullen. He attended and graduated from Dowagiac Union High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. After high school, Jeff pursued his bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan University and graduated in 1982.

Following his post-secondary education, Jeff worked as a medical devices sales representative, specializing in pacemakers and defibrillators. Jeff took pride in his career and his ability to provide quality medical products to the industry; he was employed with Cordis from 1982 to 1992, Telectronics from 1992 to 1997, and was one of the top sales representatives in the country for Guidant/BSC from 1997 to 2012. While working for Guidant/BSC Jeff earned many awards. He was most recently employed with Sorin.

In his leisure time, Jeff enjoyed traveling, wine tasting and visiting Napa Valley. However, Jeff’s greatest pleasure was in raising his four children. He was a loving father, avid sports fan and a dedicated supporter of all of his children’s endeavors. He was very proud of his children: Michael’s pursuit of a nursing degree, a cause near to Jeff’s heart through his own profession; Kelsey’s graduation from MSU and her four year soccer scholarship; Hayley’s high academic achievements and leadership position at Okemos High School; and Matthew’s strong performance in school and on the football field. Not only did Jeff encourage his children through their schooling, but also their athletic goals.

He enjoyed watching Kelsey’s soccer games at MSU and Matthew’s football games at Okemos High School, and he eagerly looked forward to following Hayley’s cross country career at University of Michigan in the coming school year. More than a sports fan, Jeff was a loving and compassionate father and friend, and he will be dearly missed.

Jeff was preceded in death by both of his parents; older brother, Michael and beloved dog, Winston. Surviving to cherish his memory are his four children, Michael, Kelsey, Hayley and Matthew; brother, Scott Mullen; and best friend, Paula Valavanis. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at The Peoples Church, 200 W. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Education Fund for Jeff’s Children, Wells Fargo Advisors, 31440 Northwestern Hwy., Suite 110, Farmington Hills, MI 48334.
