A Decatur resident who fell asleep at the wheel and ran her vehicle into a set of residential mailboxes was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to a single vehicle accident at around noon in the 54000 block of M-51 in Silver Creek Township.

Tina Goetz, 44, was headed southbound on M-51 when she fell asleep at the wheel, left the roadway to the east and crashed through a set of mailboxes. Goetz received minor injuries from the accident and was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Goetz is believed to have been wearing her seatbelt and alcohol is not a factor in the accident. Pride Care Ambulance assisted.
