Niles High School graduate Kenneth A. Brook threw out the first pitch during the Chicago Cubs game Saturday at Wrigley Field.

Brook, who holds the rank of Staff Sargent in the United States Army, was recognized by the Cubs’ Hero of the Game program, in which the organization selects a hero in conjunction with the armed forces.

Brook graduated from Niles High School in 2000 and enlisted in January of 2001. He served one tour of duty in Iraq and two more tours in Afghanistan. He is a medic and presently serves as a recruiter in Chicago, having been reassigned there in January from Fort Benning, Georgia.

Brook turns 33 today.
