Cass County Road Commission welcomes new managing director Steve Lucas, longtime director of operations from Three Rivers School District to oversee the road commission.

After the dissolution of the shared manager agreement with St. Joseph County Road Commission due to the demand and attention needed at each agency, Mr. Lucas comes highly recommended to meet the needs of the road commission and the community.

With much to learn about rural infrastructure policies and transportation funding issues in local government, Lucas is ready for a new exciting challenge. He joins the road commission with over 20 years experience in management and construction knowledge proving to demonstrate successful synergy and collaborative relationships.

“The road commission is similar to the school district in that it’s a customer service type job,” Lucas said. “You need to think of the people you are serving.”

He has developed and implemented many unique processes within his career, saving thousands of tax dollars with his hands-on management style. Lucas has assisted and administered a $24 million dollar budget and has an innate ability to foresee upcoming problems and make corrections before financial issues become a problem.

These qualities define what Cass County Road Commission was looking for in a manager.

Lucas has many years of community involvement and will be a great asset for the road commission, working one-on-one with the road commissioners, township officials, county officials and other local units of government while continuing his relationships with many local construction agencies and school officials.
