As a junior, Niles’ Anna Flahaven had a big year on the tennis court.

She was a first-team All-Big 16 Conference selection and she captured the Division 3 regional championship.

If you think that’s good enough heading into her senior season then you don’t know Flahaven.

“Going the to state last year was a real big accomplishment for me,” she said. “I want to push myself this year in my matches and maybe improve my set scores. I also want to do better at state.”

Flahaven is a captain for the Vikings this year and she had some specific things in mind for the team as well.

“I wanted to make sure we have a lot of fun,” she said. “If you are not having fun there really isn’t any point in playing. I wanted to make sure everyone knows what to do and how to play. Players come up to me and ask if I can help them with their game and I always say ‘of course.’ I help them as much as I can.”

Coming into her senior season, Flahaven said she had to work on her volleying.

“I am not a net person at all,” she said. “I don’t come to the net unless I have to. So I definitely need to improve my net play.”

Veteran Niles coach Jill Weber knows she has a special player in her captain.

“She’s has really taken hold of it,” Weber said. “The other players look up to her. Her work ethic is amazing.”

Flahaven also excels in the classroom where she has a 3.85 GPA.
