Dowagiac wins shootout 4-3

Dowagiac outscored visiting Coloma 4-3 in a shootout to earn a 3-2 Wolverine Conference West Division soccer victory Wednesday night.

The Chieftains improved to 2-0 in division play with the victory.

Dowagiac led 2-1 at halftime on goals by Logan McMeeken in the fifth minute and Cali Rank in the 25th minute. Rank assisted on the first goal and Christina Preston assisted on the second.

Trailing 2-0, Coloma’s Ashley Sipla scored in the 26th minute to cut the advantage to a single goal.

Emma Tavolacci scored in the 41st minutes for the Comets to tie the score at 2-2.

Dowagiac held a 21-12 advantage in shots on goal. Grace Younger had seven saves for the Chieftains.
