Ham sacrifice lifts Niles to win over St. Joe

A walk-off sacrifice fly from Jordan Ham in the bottom of the 10th lifted host Niles to a 3-2 win over South Bend St. Joseph Thursday.

The loss was the first of the season for the Indians.

In the bottom of the 10th, Thornton drew a lead-off walk and Tyler Clutter was hit by a pitch before Taylor Weldy was intentionally walked with one out to load the bases.

Ham lifted a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Warren Smith with the winning run.

Wyatt Thornton got the win in relief for the Vikings. Thornton pitched two innings and allowed no runs.

Niles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Vikings attack began with a double from Taylor Weldy. A passed ball then moved Taylor from second to third.

Niles’ run in the second came on a fielder’s choice.

The Vikings were outhit by the Indians 10 to 4. Weldy had a double for Niles.
