Richard Dorn, age 78 years of Niles, Michigan died at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana following a brief illness.

He was born on January 5, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to John and Catherine Dorn. He attended Niles schools, was graduated from Edwardsburg High School, and has lived in this area all of his life. He was retired in 1997 from the former Simplicity Pattern Company plant in Niles following forty-two years of service.

Richard enjoyed skeet shooting, riding motorcycles, and playing pool.

On April 4, 1996 in Sevierville, Tennessee he married the former Linda (Fein) Nekvasil who survives. Also surviving are his children, Howard Dorn and Brenda Disterheft, both of Niles; grandchildren Randy (& Sara) Orpurt, Zachary Norton, and Erica Norton, and great-grandchild, Drake Orpurt; Linda’s children, David (& Angela) Nekvasil and Tracy Nekvasil, both of Niles; grandchildren David A. Nekvasil, Dominic Davis, Brittney Rose, and Travis Rose; and great-grandchildren Johnathon Nekvasil and Caitlyn Rose.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

The family of Richard Dorn will gather privately to honor his memory. In memory of Richard, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association as several relatives have been affected by that disease. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
