Brandywine boys win tri-meet

Led by triple winners Michael Robbins and Andrew Duckett, the Brandywine boys track team posted a first place finish at its own tri-meet Thursday.

The Bobcats won with 97 points, while Three Rivers totaled 68 and Cassopolis had nine.

Three Rivers won the girls meet with 99 points, while Cassopolis totaled 51 and Brandywine had 19.

Robbins finished first in the 1,600 meters (4:50.96), 800 meters (2:08.34) and 3,200-meter relay (9:04.49).

Duckett placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.98), 100 meters (11.85) and 300-meter hurdles (40.97).

Another Brandywine standout was Tyler Danner, who finished first in the 3,200 meters (11:05.93) and 3,200-meter relay.

“They’re a work in progress,” Brandywine boys track coach Terry Borr said about his boys team. “We just want to improve our times at these meets. Our goal is to win conference and do well at the regional and state meet. All of our kids are pushing each other to help us reach our goals. Our kids are kids are really disappointed that we didn’t win the 1,600-meter relay. That will make them work even harder. We’ve got a competitive group of kids.”

Brandywine 1,600-meter relay team of Nathan Anders, Matt Kline, Robbins and Steve Mugenzi finished second with a time of 3:40.66. Three Rivers won that event with a time of 3:38.55.

In the girls meet, Cassopolis led by double winners Nakiela Sinclair (400 relay-54.43, discus-78-3), KayAnna Williams (100-14.30, 400 relay) and Janye Butts (long jump-13-7, 400 relay).
