BERRIEN SPRINGS — In honor of National Reading Month, the Berrien County Great Start Parent Coalition and Great Start Collaborative collected gently used books to be distributed to organizations that promote literacy through their programs.

“We are overwhelmed by the support and never imagined we would collect this many books,” said Melissa Church, Great Start Parent Coalition parent liaison. “We will be able to provide books to more families throughout the entire county due to the generosity of community members.”

Books will be distributed to home visiting programs, shelters and literacy programs.

These include the Benton Harbor Sunrise Rotary’s Red Wagon Program, Nurse Family Partnership, Berrien RESA Parents as Teachers, Berrien RESA Early On, InterCare’s Maternal Infant Health Program, Silver Lining’s Maternal Infant Health Program, Berrien County Council for Children, Mosaic Resource Center, the Safe Shelter and the Emergency Shelter.

The Berrien County Great Start Parent Coalition is a parent-driven group that focuses on early childhood development. To find out how to get involved in the Berrien County Great Start Parent Coalition, visit or find us on Facebook at Berrien County Great Start Collaborative.
