Helen Weage, of Niles and Indian Lakes

Helen Weage, 93, of Niles and Indian Lake, Mich. died at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Buchanan Meadows Living Center in Buchanan, Mich. following an extended illness.

Helen’s family is grateful for the special level of care provided by the folks of Brentwood Assisted Living and Buchanan Meadows, and especially for the compassionate attention of Shaylan Williamson who was truly a blessing.

Helen was born on Dec. 21, 1920, in Potomac, Ill. to Homer J. and Velma E. (Drollinger) Davis and was graduated from Potomac High School.

In June of 1939 she married her high school sweetheart, Garold Quick. They came to Niles and established the former Quick’s Convalescent Home where she served as bookkeeper and assistant manager for 40 years. She was also employed in the Dowagiac office of Dr. Lira.

Helen and Garold were blessed with two children, Patricia and Jerry.

In 1966, at First Baptist Church in Niles, Helen married Chester Weage. Chet and Helen were members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter MI-S of St. Joseph, Mich., and were named “Ambassadors” by the state GWRRA. They served throughout the United States as Ambassadors, wearing orange outfits as they welcomed fellow riders to rallies. They continued to ride and participate in rallies into their 80s.

Chet preceded her in death in June of 2008. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Steven Robert Rose on Dec. 31, 1991; and by her siblings, James Davis, Reece Davis and Mary Belle Boen.

Surviving family includes her children, Patricia Ann (Darwin) Kipker of Niles, and Jerry Winton (Jacki Mione) Quick of Springhill, Tenn.; step-son, Duane (Evelyn Sklar) Weage of East Lansing, Mich.; grandchildren Christy (Terry) Quick, Deborah (Terry) Stough, and Alexander Quick; great-grandchildren Jessica Zeitler, Matthew Rose, and Chase, Adam, and Hunter Stough; many step-grand and great-grandchildren including Julie (Ray) Skaggs; and Helen’s sister Lucy (Quint) Slevin of Ocala, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Helen Quick Weage will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Ron Smith of Hope Community Church officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Helen may be made to the Gold Wing Riders Chapter MI-S (c/o 6447 Indian Trail, Three Oaks, MI 49128), to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, Saint Joseph, Mich. 49085.
