Becky Kessler said she hopes to raise more than $10,000 for the Niles Service League during its first ever Colors for Kids 5K Fun Run April 26 at Brandywine High School’s cross country trail.

“I’m not sure if we will get there, but that’s the goal,” said the Niles Service League treasurer and event chairperson. “We want to help as many kids as possible.”

One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to the Niles Service League, a non-profit member organization that gives all proceeds back to the community.

The Niles Service League’s mission is to provide services to the children in the Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan areas. It was founded by a group of women interested in the welfare of the children in our community.

Some of the services include college and vocational scholarships, camperships, clothing/eyeglasses for students, Holiday Adopt-a-Family and community contributions.

Kessler said the league usually hosts a golf outing to raise money, but decided to go with a 5K run with the hope that it will bring in more participants.

The event begins with registration at 7 a.m., Zumba (dance aerobics) at 8 a.m. and the race at 9 a.m.

The course will feature multiple checkpoints where runners will get doused with different colors of powder.

People can walk, run, skip or dance their way through the race.

“It’s supposed to be fun,” Kessler said.

It is open to all ages. Cost is $35 per person or $30 per person when registering a team of four or more people. Runners will get a T-shirt with price of admission.

A pre-registration event will be held from 4-8 p.m. April 25 at the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce.
