Brandywine senior Tammy Lee and sophomore Makenna Hartline have been named to the Basketball Coaches Assocation of Michigan (BCAM) All-State team.

Lee was a first-team selection, while Hartline earned honorable mention status.

“Very excited for both of these girls and our program to have two individuals named to all-state teams,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “Tammy Lee in her two years in our program has really grown up and became one of the best players I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching. A great competitor, a great leader, a great basketball player, and most importantly a great kid.

“Makenna went from a broken ankle last summer and not being able to participate to honorable mention all-state nine months later as a sophomore. That boils down to her outstanding work ethic and her determination.  I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach her for the next two seasons as her best is yet to come.”

This is the fifth straight season that the Bobcats have had a first-team all-state selection.

Prior to 2010, Brandywine had just one all-state pick in Andrea Alexander.

Carlie Newman was a three-time first team pick (2010-12) and MacKenzie Shelton was a first team selection last season.

“These girls and their teammates over the past few seasons with a 115-8 record deserve all of the recognition they have received. I’m very proud and fortunate to be the leader of such great girls in an outstanding community.”

Hood is not only proud of Lee and Hartline as basketball players, but as people as well.

“The greatest attribute of both these young ladies is they are ideal student-athletes who do things the right way, get fantastic grades, and represent the Brandywine community in a classy manner,” Hood said. “They would also be the first to tell anyone that these awards are not possible without the fabulous teammates who surrounded them this season.”
