A mechanical failure led to a small sewer spill at the intersection of Oak Grove and Peavine Street in Cassopolis Tuesday.

Less than 1,000 gallons overflowed at the location of the 28-year-old village lift station and the ground surrounding it.

Turner Excavation was called in to help control the overflow while a bypass could be set up.

The spill was kept to a minimum, as Turner and the Cassopolis Department of Public Works employees responded immediately.

Lime was spread on the entire area, and city officials said the old station will be upgraded.
