John ‘John John’ Scherer, of Hartford

John John loved sports, especially football, baseball and basketball. He graduated from Hartford High School and was the starting middle linebacker for the Hartford High School Indians and a part of the team who went to the 2011 state playoffs. He also liked the University of Michigan, the Chicago Bulls and NASCAR.

He had a love for farming and hunting with his Dad and Papa. John John loved to travel with his Mom to exotic locations. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

His surviving family includes his parents; step-mother, Laura; sisters, Olivia and Karlee; brothers, Nathan and Landon; paternal grandparents, John and Joyce Scherer, Jr. of Dowagiac; maternal grandparents, Mary Drake of Hartford, Mich.; aunt and uncles, Kelli (Jerry) Casey of Dowagiac, Scott Scherer of Dowagiac, Robert Drake of Hartford, David Drake of Hartford, Shelly (Steven) Smedberg of Watervliet, Mich., Russell (Jenna) Drake of Watervliet, and Lisa (Bale) Freelove of Hartfort; cousins Alvaro Scherer, Allan Scherer, Harvey Scherer, Alexa Scherer, Ashton Scherer, Alyssa Casey, Madelyn Casey, Christopher Drake, Julie (Joel) McGonigal, Chase Auckerman, Chelsie Drake, Frank Cotman, Kali Drake, Kira Drake, Grant Drake, Carter Drake, and Hudson Drake.

John John passed away March 7, 2014. He was preceded by his paternal great-grandparents Allan and Frances Franz, paternal great-grandparents John and Amelia Scherer; maternal grandparent James R. Drake; maternal great-grandparents Richard and Margaret Drake; maternal great-grandparents, Morris and Luella Lewis.

His family will gather with friends on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, where there will be a funeral service Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest following the service at Keeler Cemetery.
