Dessie Pearl Chappel, 90, of Niles

Dessie Pearl Chappel, 90, of Niles, died on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home following a brief illness. She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Bedford, Ind. to William Clone and Viola May (Walls) East. On Jan. 16, 1960 in Bangor, Mich. Dessie married Russell Chappel, who survives.

Dessie was an avid bowler in the Chippewa Bowling senior league division named “The Golden Gang” for the “Happy-Go-Lucky” team. She also enjoyed geneaology.

Dessie is survived by her husband Russell of Niles, children Steven (Margie) Chappel of Watervliet, Michigan, Kenneth (& Ruth Thornton) Chappel of Coloma, Michigan, Patricia (Michael) Herman of Niles, three grandsons, Russell Chappel, David Chappel, Thomas Herman, two granddaughters, Jennifer Dinges and Stephanie Stacey and six great-grandchildren. Dessie is also survived by a brother, Dossie East of Warren Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her son Paul Chappel, sister Edna Smith, brother Edward East and infant brother William Thomas East.

Funeral services for Dessie Pearl Chappel will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Keeler Cemetery, Keeler, Michigan.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Noon until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
