Livestock killed in Cass barn fire

CASSOPOLIS — A barn fire in the 66000 block of Cassopolis Rd. southeast of Cassopolis killed some livestock and damaged farm equipment Tuesday morning.

According to Penn Township Fire Department Chief James Bogue, his crew responded to a fully involved fire at 3:30 a.m. He said that the blaze killed about eight feeder calves and farm equipment including two tractors and a sprayer.

Bogue, who said fire crews were on the scene at least six hours, called the barn a total loss.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Penn Township was assisted by the Cassopolis and Edwardsburg fire departments.
