Sue Lister, associate director of internal communications at the University of Notre Dame, has been promoted to director of public relations.

In her new role, Lister will oversee a team of writers and media specialists to help proactively tell the Notre Dame story. In addition to media relations efforts, Lister’s team manages news on the Notre Dame website and the University’s social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter. Lister also will assist with crisis and issues communications.

A member of the university’s communications division since January 2013, she has led the internal communications team, creating a strategic and integrated communications program for Notre Dame’s 5,500 employees.

Before joining the university, Lister worked in global communications for Whirlpool Corp. in Benton Harbor, Mich., for three years, holding various roles including senior manager of communications for the company’s North America Region. She also led Whirlpool Corp.’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity and managed communications for its Total Rewards Human Resources division.

Lister served as associate commissioner for communications for the Big Ten Conference from 1998 through 2004, and associate athletic director for communications at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh from 1993 to 1998.

A native of Wheeling, W.Va., Lister earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Bethany College in Bethany, W. Va. She resides with her husband and daughters in Niles, Mich.
